This is a drawing from life using graphite and aquarelle pencils (because I forgot my pastel pencils, or else I would have used them!) It was a fairly quick sketch, maybe 15 minutes or so. I wish I'd had time to add more color! But then, maybe it's also okay the way it is. Sometimes the good thing about life drawing is that I'm forced to stop when the model gets up. Well, maybe not stop right away...but let's just say, I don't have as much opportunity to ruin the drawing.

Since it's Spring, I thought I would begin this blog with a little painting I did some time back at about this same time of year. It is a clove of garlic that had begun to sprout. I think this is one of those commonplace  yet miraculous things that we often take for granted, or may even find annoying if your garlic is no longer useable. But for me, I think, 'how did that garlic know to sprout, even without being exposed to the sun? Same with onions, which I also did a few paintings of. So, for your viewing pleasure, I share my moment of "awe" with you.
